FITNESS FANATIC “I was a gymnast in high school, so I always wanted to do fitness. My first show I actually did figure and didn’t place at all. I was so nervous to go up there and pose, I thought it would give me another opportunity to get over that. I did it more for me rather than actually thinking I would stick with figure. Fitness was always where my heart was.”

ROUTINE REVAMP “I went into Junior Nationals in 2010 with the idea that my routine would be my strength and physique would be where I fell short – but I did a lot better in the physique round. I came in dead last in my routine. That was a wake-up call for me. I realized I had to add more gymnastics and do more holds, play up the entertainment value and really play to my strengths.”

ENTERTAINING ENDEAVOR “My favorite part of competing in fitness is the routine! We get to dress up in cool outfits and go out there and showcase our strength and our hard work. We’re not just going out there to be judged on our physique. I love going out there and entertaining.”

SHOCKING STUFF “I was in absolute shock when I won the Overall [at North Americans]. I went to Junior Nationals because I wanted to get my feet wet and stand on stage with the best in the nation. Previously I was the only fitness girl, so you kind of stand up there and fell like you weren’t truly judged. I needed to be judged, take the feedback and make changes. I trained to win the North Americans, but you never want to get your hopes up or be cocky about it.”

THE BIG LEAGUES “I’m looking forward to going up there and just doing something I love and not having to think about getting my pro card [anymore]. And yes I’m looking forward to standing next to Adela or Tanji or Oksana or any of the pros out there. To be in the same league as them is very exciting in itself.”
