Laverne Monger Post 2016 NPC Nationals Figure Competitor Photoshoot

Please share something of your background sports background:
I’ve always been an athlete my entire life. I played Soccer briefly when I was in middle school but Track & Field is where my true passion always was. I ran Track for as long as I can remember. My Track journey began well before I hit the double digits in age and I am very proud to say that it stayed with me through my collegiate years. In fact, my commitment to Track and Field allowed me to enter and complete college on a full athletic scholarship covering all of my educational and living expenses while I completed my Undergraduate degree. I was a nationally ranked sprinter in the sport throughout my time running track in College and hold many fond memories and awards to commemorate that chapter of my life.

Share with us a bit about your contest history and most memorable show experience:
I really do not have a long history in competing in the Figure division of bodybuilding. This was really the first year I decided to get involved with the sport. I began my journey at the start of this year’s season in January 2016 and I’ve only ever competed in two shows. My first show, The Panhandle Showdown in Pensacola, FL was an experience for the books and I would have to say it is my favorite memory so far. This is because everything was new to me and a learning and eye-opening experience. Throw in the few winnings, along with a national qualification, and that made it more intriguing to me to find out just how far the possibilities lied for me to potentially be extremely successful in the world of Figure competitions and fitness overall.  Interview and Photos Courtesy of John “Musclepapa” Hawley.
