ASF Figure International: Wilkins wins No. 3!

She’s on such a great run, not even the flu could slow her down. Nicole Wilkins won her record-setting third Figure International on Friday, joining Jenny Lynn as the only three-time winners in the sport’s history. The two-time defending champion is also a two-time Figure Olympia winner.

After the contest, the 28-year-old from Sterling Heights, Michigan, revealed that she was battling the the flu all week. The illness did have an effect on her conditioning, as she was slightly off from the career-best form she displayed when winning the 2011 Olympia, but it wasn’t enough to keep her from making history once again in Columbus.

Helping matters was the fact that Erin Stern, the 2010 Olympia champ and runner-up at each of the past two Figure Internationals, was also off the mark. Stern had lost some of the muscle and fullness that made her a perennial threat to win the sport’s biggest titles.

Candice Keene took the stage in the best shape of her four-year career to place third. Ava Cowan (4th), Heather Dees (5th) and Teresa Anthony (6th) rounded out the top six.
